MYTH: A majority of Americans support that your gender can be changed from the sex you were assigned at birth. A majority of Americans also support the belief that there are more than two genders.
REALITY: This is false. Survey data shows that many of the transgender narratives are unpopular amongst a majority of Americans. While a majority of Americans support transgenders joining the military and oppose discrimination against transgenders, they are overwhelmingly against most other transgender narratives. A majority of Americans don’t believe that your gender can be changed from the sex you were assigned at birth. A majority of Americans also don’t believe there are more than two genders. They also don’t support gender politics in the classroom, they are against transgenders using the opposite bathroom, and they “oppose transgender participation on sports teams of the opposite sex.”
This is a position that is only really supported by a majority of Democrats.

A MAJORITY OF AMERICANS BELIEVE YOU ARE THE GENDER YOU WERE ASSIGNED AT BIRTH
According to a Pew Research survey, conducted in May 2022, roughly 6 out of 10 Americans (60%) say that whether someone is a man or a woman is determined by the sex they were assigned at birth, while 38% say someone can be a man or a woman even if that is different from the sex they were assigned at birth.
Similar results were found in a YouGov survey, conducted in August 2022. According to the survey, “Americans tend to disagree with the statements “A transgender woman is a woman” (37% agree; 46% disagree) and “A transgender man is a man” (38% agree; 44% disagree)… Among Democrats, half (51%) believe a transgender woman is a woman and a transgender man is a man (52%).”
A MAJORITY OF AMERICANS BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE ONLY TWO GENDERS
According to a Rasmussen Reports survey, conducted December 21-22, 2021, “75% of American Adults agree that there are only two genders, male and female. That total includes 63% who Strongly Agree. Eighteen percent (18%) disagree.”
A MAJORITY OF AMERICANS OPPOSE GENDER POLITICS IN THE CLASSROOM
According to a Rasmussen Reports survey, “By more than a 3-to-1 margin, Americans oppose a key educational policy of the transgender movement. Sixty-eight percent (68%) believe schools and teachers should not be allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent. Only 19% believe schools should be allowed to engage in such counseling without parental consent.”
A MAJORITY OF AMERICANS SUPPORT THE PARENTAL RIGHTS IN EDUCATION BILL
The Parental Rights in Education bill coined the ‘Don’t Say Gay Bill by critics, is a bill that prevents gender politics and sexual discussion from taking place in the classrooms of grades K-3. According to a poll conducted by market research technology platform Lucid on behalf of the Daily Wire, more than 6 in 10 Americans (64%) support the Florida bill’s ban on classroom instructions on sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3, or at any level if it is not presented in a manner that is age or developmentally appropriate. Twenty-one percent said they oppose the bill. The survey’s 1,000-person sample was 37% Democrat, 32% Republican, and 31% Independent. Unlike other polls, The Daily Wire study presented the actual text from the legislation.

According to a Rasmussen Reports survey, conducted February 24-25, 2021, “32% of American Adults favor allowing transgender students to participate on the sports teams of the gender they identify with. According to Pew Research, “58% say they would favor or strongly favor policies that require transgender athletes to compete on teams that match the sex they were assigned at birth. About four in ten (41%) would strongly favor these policies. Only 17% oppose or strongly oppose them, while about a quarter of U.S. adults (24%) neither favor nor oppose these policies.
According to Gallup, “A majority of Americans (62%) say trans athletes should only be allowed to play on sports teams that correspond with their birth gender, while 34% say they should be able to play on teams that match their gender identity.”

According to Pew Research, “On potential policies that require transgender individuals to use public bathrooms that match the sex they were assigned at birth, not their gender identity, Americans’ views are mixed. Around four in ten (41%) would at least somewhat favor these policies. About three-in-ten (31%) would at least somewhat oppose these policies, and 28% neither favor nor oppose them.”
