Democrats and Their Failure to Combat Crime

Democrat-majority areas are responsible for a majority of the crime in this country. Numerous studies and data has proven this.

MYTH: Democrat areas don’t have more crime.

REALITY: That is false. Numerous studies and data show that majority-Democrat and Democrat-run areas tend to have more crime.

A study published by the Edwin Meese III Center for Judicial and Legal Studies at the Heritage Foundation found that 27 out of 30 U.S. cities with the highest homicide rates have Democratic mayors.

Authors of the study, Charles Stimson, Zack Smith, and Kevin D. Dayaratna, concluded that “the high murder rate is almost exclusively cabined in cities run by Democrats and with Democrat district attorneys, many of whom are Soros bought-and-paid-for rogue prosecutors or inspired by Soros, groups like the egregiously misnamed Fair and Just Prosecution and other battering rams of the movement.”

Rafael Mangual, a researcher for the Manhattan Institute, compiled data on the 50 largest cities and found that Democratic-run cities had more crime than Republican-run cities. He said that the “homicide rate in the blue cities was 15.8 per 100,000, compared to 9.4 per 100,000 in the red cities.”

Researchers at Manhattan Institute, Robert VerBruggen, and Christos Makridis, analyzed the rise in the homicide rate per capita in the largest U.S. counties between 2019 and 2020. They found that GOP-leaning counties had fewer increases in homicides compared to Democratic-leaning counties.

Here’s what they said, “Although we need more data to say definitively, we find some evidence that suggests that the nation’s political cultures played a role, with homicide increases in GOP-leaning counties tending to be smaller than those in Democratic-leaning counties when we focus on homicides within counties over time. We also find that there is no statistically significant relationship between the growth in the homicide rate and either the number of Covid-19 deaths or the number of guns sold per capita.”

According to World Population Review, the top 10 cities with the highest crime rate in 2022 were Detroit, Michigan; Birmingham, Alabama; Memphis, Tennessee;
Baltimore, Maryland; St. Louis, Missouri; Kansas City, Missouri; Cleveland, Ohio; Little Rock, Arkansas; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Stockton, California.

Overall, of the 10 cities with the most violent crime, 66.86% of all voters voted Democrat compared to 31.24% who voted Republican.

One of the top objections Democrats make is that some of the States with the most violent crimes are Republican. But what they conveniently leave out is that the crime in those States is almost exclusively driven by Democrat-run or Democrat-majority cities. (Check below for more information)

Similar results are found in other states like Missouri, Louisiana, and Tennessee. (Check below for more information)

All the data points to Democratic areas being responsible for most of the crime in this country.

THE TOP 10 MOST VIOLENT CITIES VOTE DEMOCRAT

I used data from World Population Review and Bestplaces.net, to show that the top 10 cities with the most violent crime are Democrat strongholds.

Here are the Top 10 Cities with the most violent crime and the Percentage of voters who voted Democrat in the 2020 election—

MURDER IN DEMOCRAT CITIES DRIVE THE TOTAL U.S. MURDER COUNT UP

In 2018 there were 16,669 reported murders and nonnegligent manslaughter. During that year, 30 cities made up over 25% of all the murders in the United States— Despite, their populations only making a little over 10% of the country.

Every one of those cities voted majority Democrat.

City: Murder
New York: 295
Atlanta: 88
Detroit: 261
Kansas City: 137

COMPARING VIOLENT CRIME IN CONSERVATIVE AND LIBERAL AREAS IN THE UNITED STATES

Rexburg, Indiana is one of the most conservative areas in the United States.
In Madison County, Indiana, 79.1% of people voted Republican in the 2020 election. Rexburg has a violent crime rate of 0.23 per 1000 residents.

Berkeley, California is one of the most liberal areas in the United States. In Alameda County, California, 79.8% of the people voted Democrat in the 2020 election.

Berkeley has a violent crime rate of 5.03 per 1000 residents. Its violent crime rate is 25% higher than the national average of 4 per 1000 residents. You are about 20 times more likely to be a victim of violent crime in Berkeley compared to Rexburg.

COMPARING VIOLENT CRIME IN CONSERVATIVE AND LIBERAL AREAS IN THE UNITED STATES

Midland, Texas is one of the most conservative cities in the United States. In Midland County, Texas, 77.3% of the people voted Republican in the 2020 election.

In Midland, your chances of being a victim of a violent crime are 4.14 per 1000 residents.

San Francisco, California, is one of the most liberal cities in the United States. In San Francisco County, California, 85.3% of the people voted Democrat in the 2020 election.

In San Francisco, your chances of being a victim of a violent crime are 5.63 per 1000 residents. You are 36% more likely to be a victim of violent crime in San FrancDemocratspared to Midland.

According to the Hoover Institution, “San Franciscans face about a 1-in-16 chance each year of being a victim of property or violent crime, which makes the city more dangerous than 98 percent of US cities, both small and large. To put this in perspective, Compton, California, the infamous home of drug gang turf wars, and which today remains more dangerous than 90 percent of all US cities, is almost twice as safe as San Francisco.”

DEBUNKING THE RED STATE MURDER PROBLEM

Democrats often bring up how red states like Louisiana, Missouri, and Tennessee have high crime rates. What they consistently leave out is that the cities responsible for most of the crime in these states are Democrat.

Using “Murder and nonnegligent
manslaughter” data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, I was able to determine how many murders each State had by city. I then used 2020 voting patterns to determine that a majority of the crime was isolated in liberal areas.

For example, there were 383 murders in Louisiana in 2018. Of those 383 murders, 143 (about 37%) happened in New Orleans. About 73% of the 383 murders happened in three areas in Louisiana; New Orleans (143), Baton Rouge (87), and Shreveport (49). All three of these areas are liberal.

New Orleans: In Orleans County, Louisiana, 83.1% of the people voted Democrat in the 2020 election.

Baton Rouge: In East Baton Rouge County, Louisiana, 55.5% of the people voted Democrat in the 2020 election.

Shreveport: In Caddo County, Louisiana, 52.5% of the people voted Democrat in the 2020 election.

If you were to just remove New Orleans from the equation, Louisiana’s overall crime rate would dramatically drop.

Missouri for example had about 451 murders in 2018. But Missouri has the cities of St. Louis and Kansas City. Both of those cities are responsible for 324. So, those two cities are responsible for about 72% of all murders in Missouri. Both, St. Louis and Kansas City are liberal cities.

St. Louis: 81.9% of the people voted Democrat in the 2020 election.

Kansas City: 59.8% of the people voted Democrat in the 2020 election.

Tennessee had 397 murders in 2018. 186 (47%) of the murders were from Memphis. Memphis is very a liberal city.

Memphis: 64.4% of the people voted Democrat in the 2020 election.
