Falsehood #10: Biden was wrong when he said Trump “eliminated the funding for community policing.”
Biden made this false claim on October 15, 2020 during an ABC town hall.
EXPLANATION: This is false. In 2019, the Trump administration proposed cutting funding to community police program by half, but it was never enacted. Trump proposed a budget cut because the crime rates had significantly decreased, lowering the need for such a high budget. Trump was not the first President to want to lower the community police budget as crime decreased. In the mid-1990s, the budget ranged from $1.2 billion to $1.6 billion annually, lowering to $200 million annually by 2012, under the Obama administration.
In conclusion, the plan was never enacted and the funding for community policing was not eliminated.
