Falsehood #8: Biden was wrong when he said, “I can send every qualified person to a four-year college in their state for $150 billion.”
Biden made this false claim during a CBS “60 Minutes” interview on October 25, 2020.
EXPLANATION: This is incorrect. Biden low-balled the figure. It would cost significantly more than $150 billion. According to a Georgetown study, it would cost both federal and state governments $683.1 billion over an 11-year period.
According to the Hill, “Higher education funding has historically been handled by individual states who are beholden to an annual budget. An analysis by the Urban Institute found that in 2019, states collectively spent $311 billion on higher education — about 9 percent of general spending.”
This is around the entire GDP of Finland.
