Joe Biden Falsehood #44

FALSEHOOD #44: Biden falsely claimed that he had the strongest manufacturing job growth in history.

On September 10, 2022, Biden tweeted, “Right now, I have the strongest record of growing manufacturing jobs in modern history.”

EXPLANATION: This is false. Biden is misleadingly using jobs recovered under the pandemic to bolster his job growth record.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,  about 1.4 million manufacturing jobs were lost from February 2020 to April 2020. Most of those jobs were regained under the Trump administration (800,000). From February 2021 to August 2022, Biden was able to recover about 630,000 manufacturing jobs (5.2%). Not only is Biden’s job recovery smaller than Trump’s recovery, but other presidents exceeded a higher manufacturing job growth. Richard Nixon, from 1972-1973, added more than 1.3 million manufacturing jobs (7.6%). Biden was a senator at the time, so he should remember Nixon’s job growth record.
