FALSEHOOD #11: Joe Biden falsely claimed that he was arrested protesting for civil rights.
He said, “I did not walk in the shoes of generations of students who walked these grounds, but I walked other grounds. Because I’m so damn old, I was there as well. You think I’m kidding, It seems like yesterday the first time I got arrested.”
Joe Biden made this false claim on January 11, 2022, during a speech in Atlanta.
EXPLANATION: This is false. There’s no record of Biden being arrested or being heavily involved in any civil rights movement. Multiple fact-checking outlets investigated his claims, and determined that they were false.
Biden has made false claims about his involvement in the civil rights movement before. He was quoted saying, “I was not down marching. I was not down in Selma. I was not anywhere else. I was a suburbanite kid who got a dose of exposure to what was happening to black Americans in my own city.”
